Peruvian Gnateater

Conopophaga peruviana

The Peruvian Gnateater is a small, insectivorous bird found in the subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests of western Peru. It is known for its distinctive behavior of foraging on or near the ground, often in dense undergrowth. This species has a cryptic plumage, with a dark brown upperparts and a rufous crown. Its underparts are a paler brown with a rufous vent. The Peruvian Gnateater is known for its distinctive song, which consists of a series of whistles and trills. Despite being relatively common in its range, its secretive nature and preference for dense habitats make it challenging to observe.
