Peruvian Recurvebill

Syndactyla ucayalae (Chapman, 1928)

Peruvian Recurvebill, Syndactyla ucayalae, is a bird of south-west Amazonia in Peru, Bolivia and far western Brazil, where it lives in lowland evergreen forest and along riversides, especially in stands of Guadua bamboo. It is a Furnariidae species with a heavy, slightly upturned bill and the sexes look alike. Adults show a rufous supercilium, reddish brown upperparts, orange-rufous underparts and a dark reddish chestnut tail. It is a year-round resident and is usually found singly or in pairs, mainly in dense undergrowth.
