Pheasant Coucal

Centropus phasianinus

The Pheasant Coucal, also known as the Pacific Coucal, is a large, ground-dwelling bird found in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. It is known for its striking appearance, with a long tail, chestnut wings, and a black head and body. This species is often found in dense vegetation near water, where it forages for insects, small mammals, and reptiles. The Pheasant Coucal is known for its distinctive deep booming call, which is often heard in the early morning and late afternoon. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation pose potential risks to its populations.
