Piapiac
Ptilostomus afer (Linnaeus, 1766)
Corvidae — Crows, Jays
Piapiac, Ptilostomus afer, is a bird of the crow family that breeds across Africa from Senegal and Gambia east to southern Ethiopia, western Kenya and Uganda. It is the only species in Ptilostomus, and its nearest relatives are the ground jays of Central Asia. The bird was first described by Linnaeus in 1766. It is found in more open country, especially cultivated land with fields and pasture, together with nearby towns and villages. It often nests in palm trees, though other sites are used, and lays three to seven eggs between March and April.
