Reinwardtoena browni (Sclater, PL, 1877)

Pied Cuckoo-Dove, Reinwardtoena browni, breeds in the Admiralty Islands, Lavongai, New Ireland and New Britain, with satellites in the north-western and eastern Bismarck Archipelago. It belongs to the pigeon family and was described by Sclater in 1877. This is a large, striking dove, and adults show a black-and-white pattern with pale head and underparts, darker wings, tail and upperparts. Young birds are mostly sooty grey. It is usually encountered alone or in pairs and can be difficult to locate. It takes fruit.
