The Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) is a distinctive black and white kingfisher found across sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia. This medium-sized bird is known for its striking black and white plumage, with a distinctive black mask and a white breast and belly. It is often seen perched on branches or hovering over water bodies before plunging to catch fish. The Pied Kingfisher is highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of freshwater habitats, including rivers, lakes, and coastal areas. It is a skilled hunter, using its sharp eyesight to locate and catch prey. This species is not currently considered at risk and is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
