Pied Puffbird

Sclateria naevia

The Pied Puffbird (Sclateria naevia) is a medium-sized bird found in the tropical forests of Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive black and white plumage, with a black head, back, and wings, and a white belly and throat. This species is often observed perched motionless on a branch, waiting to catch insects and small vertebrates. The Pied Puffbird is a solitary bird and is known for its distinctive call, a series of loud, piercing whistles. It primarily inhabits the canopy and edges of humid forests, where it can be found in low densities. Despite being relatively common, its population is declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
