Pied Water Tyrant

Fluvicola pica (Boddaert, 1783)

Pied Water Tyrant, Fluvicola pica, is a passerine of Middle America and northern South America, breeding from Panama through the Guianas to northern Brazil. It is a bird of freshwater marshes and the edges of lakes and ponds, and also uses nearby grassland and gardens. The species is mostly found low down, though in Colombia it reaches 1,000 m. It is a resident bird. Adults show a striking black-and-white pattern, with males and females differing in the dark markings on the head and back, and juveniles following the adult pattern in browner tones.
