Coryphospingus pileatus
The Pileated Finch, scientifically known as Coryphospingus pileatus, is a small passerine bird found in South America. It is distinguished by its striking plumage, with a black head, white throat, and chestnut underparts. The upperparts are olive-green, and the wings and tail are black with white markings. This species is often found in open woodlands, forest edges, and shrubby areas. Pileated Finches are social birds and are often seen in small flocks foraging for seeds and insects. They have a melodious song and are known for their acrobatic displays during courtship. Despite facing some habitat loss, the Pileated Finch is currently not considered at risk and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
