Pileated Parrot

Pionopsitta pileata

The Pileated Parrot, also known as the Red-capped Parrot, is a medium-sized parrot native to South America. It is recognized by its striking red crown, green body, and blue wings. These social birds are often found in flocks and are known for their playful and inquisitive nature. Pileated Parrots are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits, seeds, and nuts. They are also known to visit clay licks to obtain essential minerals. These parrots are commonly found in lowland tropical forests and forest edges, where they nest in tree cavities. While they are not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and capture for the pet trade are potential concerns for their population.
