Pine Bunting, Emberiza leucocephalos, is a bunting of the forest edge and open country across the Palearctic, breeding from western Russia east to the Sea of Okhotsk, including Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, and also in parts of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Xinjiang, Mongolia and north-east China. It also breeds in scattered areas of north-west China. In the non-breeding season it moves to more southerly open habitats, reaching Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Himalayas, China, south-eastern Russia, the Korean Peninsula and southern Japan. It was described by Gmelin, SG, 1771.
