Pine Siskin

Spinus pinus

The Pine Siskin is a small, nomadic finch with a pointed bill and a streaky brown and yellow plumage. These social birds are often found in flocks, and they have a high-pitched twittering call. They are known for their irruptive migrations, where large numbers may appear in areas where they are not typically found. Pine Siskins are often attracted to feeders, especially during winter when natural food sources are scarce. They primarily feed on seeds and have a specialized bill for extracting seeds from cones. These adaptable birds can be found in a variety of habitats, including coniferous forests, open woodlands, and suburban areas.
