Pink-bellied Waxbill

Estrilda rhodopyga

The Pink-bellied Waxbill (Estrilda rhodopyga) is a small, colorful finch found in the grasslands and savannas of central Africa. It is easily recognized by its striking pink belly and bright red bill. The upperparts are a mix of brown, black, and white, with a distinctive red patch on the rump. These social birds form small flocks and are often seen foraging for seeds and insects on the ground. They build dome-shaped nests in tall grasses and reed beds. The Pink-bellied Waxbill is known for its melodious and repetitive song, often performed in duets by mated pairs.
