Pink Cockatoo

Cacatua leadbeateri (Vigors, 1831)

Cacatuidae — Cockatoos

Pink Cockatoo, Cacatua leadbeateri, breeds in inland Australia across the arid and semi-arid interior. It is a cockatoo of extensive woodland, especially where Callitris, sheoaks and eucalypts are present, and it does not suit broken-up country. The bird is usually seen in pairs or small groups. It has soft white and salmon-pink plumage, with a large crest marked in bright red and yellow. Males and females are very similar, though males are usually larger. The female shows a wider yellow band on the crest and gains a red eye when mature.
