Mohoua novaeseelandiae (Gmelin, JF, 1789)

Pipipi, Mohoua novaeseelandiae, is a passerine of South and Stewart islands in New Zealand and their satellite islands. It is a small bird of forests, including native beech and podocarp stands, as well as exotic plantations. It is best recognised by its warm brown and chestnut upperparts, paler underparts, and the pale stripe behind the eye. The head shows chestnut brown and dark brown patterning, with greyish areas on the face and behind it. The tail is long and ragged, with a dark tip, and the bill and legs are pinkish or grey-brown.
