Pipit

Anthus furcatus

The pipit (Anthus furcatus) is a small, slender bird with a streaked brown back, pale underparts, and a distinctive pale eyebrow stripe. It is known for its melodious, often repetitive song, which it delivers from a prominent perch. Pipits are ground-dwelling birds, foraging for insects and seeds in open grasslands, meadows, and agricultural fields. They are often seen walking or running on the ground, frequently flicking their tails. These birds are widespread across North America, breeding in open habitats and migrating south for the winter. Pipits are known for their high-pitched, buzzy flight calls as they move in flocks during migration.
