Plain-crested Elaenia, Elaenia cristata, is a passerine of the Tyrannidae family that breeds in north and east South America. It was described by Pelzeln in 1868. The bird is a small elaenia with a prominent crest, and the sexes and the two subspecies share the same plumage. It lives mainly in savanna, and also uses open savanna woodland, scrub and cerrado. Its range includes Venezuela, the Guianas, eastern Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia and Peru, with E. c. alticola restricted to the tepuis of south-eastern Venezuela and adjoining north-western Brazil.
