Plain-flanked Rail, Rallus wetmorei, is a rail of the mangroves on the Caribbean coast of Venezuela, where it is known from a few sites between eastern Falcón and western Aragua. It breeds in South America, in Venezuela, and is confined there. The bird has two colour forms: one pale, olive-brown with dark streaking, and one much darker, ranging from brown to sooty. It lives mainly in coastal mangroves, and has also been recorded in emergent growth in brackish and saltwater lagoons and marshes. It is a large rail and is monotypic.
