Rhyticeros subruficollis
The Plain-pouched Hornbill is a large bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive red and yellow casque on its bill and a black body with white underparts. This hornbill is known for its loud, raucous calls and is often seen flying in pairs or small groups. It primarily feeds on fruits, insects, and small animals. The female seals herself inside a tree cavity during nesting, leaving only a narrow slit for the male to pass food to her and the chicks. This species plays an important role in seed dispersal and forest regeneration.
