Planalto Woodcreeper

Dendrocolaptes platyrostris

The Planalto Woodcreeper is a medium-sized bird found in the Atlantic Forest of eastern Brazil. It has a distinctive long, decurved bill and a streaked brown plumage, helping it blend in with the dense vegetation of its habitat. This species is primarily insectivorous, foraging for insects and spiders in the understory and lower canopy. It is often observed hopping vertically up tree trunks in search of prey. The Planalto Woodcreeper plays a vital role in its ecosystem by controlling insect populations. However, due to habitat loss and fragmentation, its population is declining, and it is currently considered Near Threatened by the IUCN.
