Plum-throated Cotinga, Cotinga maynana, is a bird of the upper Amazon Basin in South America, breeding in western Amazonia. Its range covers Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It lives in humid lowland rainforest, with a particular link to várzea and some use of terra firme. The species is best known for the marked difference between the sexes. Adult males are mostly shiny turquoise-blue and show a plum-purple throat patch, while females are dark greyish brown above with fawn underparts and darker markings.
