Plumbeous Antbird

Myrmelastes hyperythrus (Sclater, PL, 1855)

Plumbeous Antbird, Myrmelastes hyperythrus, is a passerine of the western and south-western Amazonia in South America, where it occurs in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It was described by Sclater in 1855 and belongs to the antbird family Thamnophilidae. It lives on the floor and in the understorey of evergreen forest, especially inside várzea where fallen trees open the canopy, and it also uses transitional forest and the edges of small watercourses and oxbow lakes. The species is monotypic and is a year-round resident across its range.
