Plumbeous Vireo

Vireo plumbeus

The Plumbeous Vireo is a small songbird found in western North America. It has a grayish-blue plumage on the upperparts, with a white throat and a pale yellow wash on the underparts. This species is known for its distinctive song, a series of clear, whistled notes. Plumbeous Vireos inhabit open woodlands, often favoring pine-oak forests and riparian areas. They forage for insects and spiders in the foliage and are known for their agile and acrobatic movements as they search for prey. During the breeding season, they build cup-shaped nests in trees or shrubs. While not currently considered threatened, their populations may be impacted by habitat loss and climate change.
