Ardea plumifera (Gould, 1848)
Plumed Egret, Ardea plumifera, is a heron of eastern Indonesia, New Guinea and Australia, with breeding in the Oriental Region. It was first described by Gould in 1848 and is placed in the family Ardeidae within the order Pelecaniformes. The bird is known for its breeding plumage, when long white ornamental plumes appear on the breast and shoulders. It was once treated as part of the Intermediate Egret complex, but is now recognised as a separate species.
