Plumed Whistling Duck

Dendrocygna eytoni

The Plumed Whistling Duck is a medium-sized waterfowl species found in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. It is characterized by its long neck, distinctive white plumes on the side of its face, and a whistling call that gives the species its name. These ducks are typically found in wetlands, marshes, and shallow freshwater habitats. They are known for their sociable nature, often forming large flocks. The Plumed Whistling Duck primarily feeds on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. Although the species is not currently considered to be globally threatened, it faces habitat loss and degradation in some parts of its range.
