Polynesian Starling

Polynesian Starling, Aplonis tabuensis, breeds across the Pacific from Temotu in the south-east Solomon Islands through southern Polynesia. It is a starling in the family Sturnidae, and the name was first given by Gmelin in 1788. Its range includes the Santa Cruz Islands, Fiji, Niue, Tonga, Samoa, and Wallis and Futuna. Several subspecies are recognised across this broad span. In places where the Samoan Starling also occurs, it is less easy to notice and stays within forest, where it takes harder fruit.
