Powerful Woodpecker, Campephilus pollens, is a woodpecker of the Andes in north-central Colombia and south to Peru. It is a resident bird of mature montane forest, humid and wet forest, cloudforest, and also secondary and more open woodland. The nominate form occurs from north-central Colombia and south-western Venezuela through Ecuador almost to Peru, while P. c. peruvianus is on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes. It is a large woodpecker with a long black chisel-like bill, and the sexes differ only in the head pattern.
