Prairie Warbler

Setophaga discolor

The Prairie Warbler is a small, vibrantly colored bird found in open woodlands and shrubby areas of eastern North America. This species is known for its striking yellow plumage with bold black streaks on the sides and back, as well as a distinctive black streak through the eye. Males often sing from exposed perches to attract mates and defend their territories. Prairie Warblers primarily feed on insects and forage actively in foliage and on the ground. They prefer early successional habitats with scattered trees and shrubs, including pine barrens, scrublands, and regenerating forests. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to their populations.
