Prigogine's Nightjar

Caprimulgus prigoginei

Prigogine's Nightjar is a medium-sized nocturnal bird found in the highlands of Colombia and Venezuela. It is characterized by its cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage against the forest floor. This species is known for its distinctive churring calls during the breeding season. Prigogine's Nightjar primarily feeds on insects, which it catches in flight using its wide gape and agile flight. Due to its elusive nature and remote habitat, much of its behavior and ecology remain poorly understood.
