Protea Canary, Crithagra leucoptera, is a finch that breeds in South Africa. It is a resident bird of the Western Cape Province, where it lives in mature protea scrub, tangled valley thickets and mountain forests, away from the coast. It was described by Sharpe in 1871. The bird is placed in the family Fringillidae and the order Passeriformes. It is also known as the protea seedeater, white-winged seedeater and Layard's seedeater. Its nest is an open cup made from thin stems and other plant material, lined with plant down, and set in a dense bush.
