The Pueo, or Hawaiian Short-eared Owl, is a medium-sized owl with mottled brown plumage, streaked underparts, yellow eyes and a round facial disc. It is mainly crepuscular, hunts with a moth-like flight pattern, can hover while searching for prey, and nests on the ground in open areas.
Habitat: Open grasslands, marshes, meadows and other open country in Hawaii.
