Amazona vittata
The Puerto Rican Amazon, also known as the Puerto Rican parrot, is a critically endangered species endemic to the island of Puerto Rico. These vibrant green parrots have a white forehead and red forehead feathers, with a distinctive blue patch on their wings. They are known for their loud calls and strong social bonds. Historically, they inhabited a variety of forest types, but now they are mainly found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Due to habitat loss, hunting, and introduced predators, the population has declined drastically, leading to its critically endangered status.
