Puna Tapaculo, Scytalopus simonsi, is a bird of the Andes in south-east Peru and central Bolivia, where it breeds on the eastern slope. It belongs to the Rhinocryptidae, the tapaculos. First described by Chubb in 1917, it was later placed with other tapaculos before being recognised again as a separate species after vocal differences were studied. Its range runs from Cordillera Vilcanota in Cuzco south-east to Cochabamba, and it lives in elfin forest, shrubs and trees among grass tussocks, as well as Polylepis woodland.
