Puna Thistletail, Asthenes helleri, is a bird of the ovenbird family found in southern Peru and northern Bolivia. It lives in elfin forest along the tree line, especially where Chusquea bamboo forms a thick understorey, and occurs between 2,700 and 3,700 m. It is a year-round resident. The sexes look alike. Adults show a long, deeply forked tail with few barbs at the feather tips, and the tail is a brighter rufescent brown than the rest of the plumage. It is monotypic, though the southern population may prove distinct.
