Puna Yellow-Finch

Rhynchospiza dabbenei

The Puna Yellow-Finch (Rhynchospiza dabbenei) is a small passerine bird found in the high-altitude grasslands and shrublands of the Andes in South America. It is characterized by its bright yellow plumage on the underparts and olive-brown plumage on the upperparts, with a distinctive black facial mask and a conical bill. These finches forage on the ground for seeds and insects, often forming small flocks. They are known for their sweet, twittering song and are often seen perched on top of shrubs or grass stalks. The Puna Yellow-Finch is well adapted to the harsh, cold climate of its habitat, and its populations are currently stable.
