Aglaeactis aliciae Salvin, 1896
Purple-backed Sunbeam, Aglaeactis aliciae, is a hummingbird of north Peru in South America. It is confined to Peru and occurs in high-altitude shrubland and plantations. It is associated with the temperate zone at 2,900-3,500 m, where mountain shrubs and Alnus trees grow. The bird has been recorded taking nectar from orange-red mistletoe flowers on Alnus, using its bill and long tongue. Its known range is very restricted, and the main pressure on it is the replacement of Alnus shrubland with Eucalyptus plantations, along with the loss of the mistletoe it feeds on.
