Purple-banded Sunbird
Cinnyris hellmayri
The Purple-banded Sunbird (Cinnyris hellmayri) is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of West Africa. This sunbird is known for its striking plumage, with the male displaying iridescent purple and green colors on its head, throat, and chest. The female is less vibrant, with olive-green upperparts and a yellowish underside. These birds are nectar feeders and play an important role in pollination. They are often seen flitting among flowers, using their slender, curved bills to extract nectar. The Purple-banded Sunbird is not currently considered to be at risk, but habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to its populations.
