Purple-bearded Bee-eater, Meropogon forsteni, is a bee-eater of montane northern, central and south-eastern Sulawesi in Australasia. It is the only species in the genus Meropogon. The bird is linked to clearings within dense forest, and it breeds inland during the dry season before shifting to the coast in the rainy season. Its name honours Eltio Alegondas Forsten, who worked in the East Indies in the 1830s and 1840s. It was described by Bonaparte in 1850.
