Purple-breasted Cotinga, Cotinga cotinga, is a bird of the canopy and forest edges in humid woodland across ne Amazonia in South America, with a separate small range in northern Peru. It is also recorded from Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela. It favours forest on sandy ground and may also use tall trees in clearings. The species is strongly sexually dimorphic. Adult males show deep cobalt blue above with a purple breast and belly, while females are browner with a scaly look.
