Purple-breasted Sunbird

Nectarinia purpureiventris

The Purple-breasted Sunbird is a small, striking bird found in the woodlands and forests of eastern Africa. The male has iridescent green and purple plumage on its head and upperparts, with a vibrant purple throat and breast. The female is more subdued, with olive-green upperparts and a pale yellow underbelly. These sunbirds are nectarivorous, using their long, curved bills to feed on nectar from flowers, as well as catching insects in flight. They are known for their acrobatic flight and melodious songs, often found near flowering plants. The Purple-breasted Sunbird is an important pollinator in its habitat.
