Purple Cochoa

Cochoa purpurea Hodgson, 1836

Purple Cochoa, Cochoa purpurea, is a bird of the Oriental Region, breeding from the Himalayas to northern Vietnam and northern Thailand. It belongs to the thrush family, Turdidae, and was described by Hodgson in 1836. It is associated with humid forest and undergrowth along ravines, and is usually encountered in dark wooded places. The bird often stays in the canopy and may remain still for long periods. In shade it looks dark, but sunlight reveals the plumage more clearly, including a silvery blue crown, a black face mask, and a silvery blue tail with a black tip.
