Lichenostomus cratitius (Gould, 1841)

Purple-gaped Honeyeater, Lichenostomus cratitius, is a honeyeater of south-western and south-central Australia, with breeding in semi-arid parts of the south-west and south-central regions. It lives in mallee woodland and shrubland, tall heath, and nearby low eucalypt woodland. The bird is also found in yellow gum woodland with dense thickets, and sometimes in river red gum or red ironbark stands when those trees are flowering. It may also turn up in gardens. Its most distinctive feature is the purple gape, set within a patterned head.
