Purple-naped Spiderhunter

Kurochkinegramma hypogrammicum (Müller, S, 1843)

Nectariniidae — Sunbirds

Purple-naped Spiderhunter, Kurochkinegramma hypogrammicum, is a bird of the Oriental Region, breeding from Myanmar to Sumatra and Borneo. It belongs to the sunbird family, Nectariniidae, and is the only species placed in the genus Kurochkinegramma. It was described by Müller, S in 1843. The bird was once assigned to Hypogramma, but that name had already been used for a moth group. Later work also examined its relationship with Arachnothera, with one study placing it within that genus and another finding it at the base of it.
