Purple Quail-Dove

Purple Quail-Dove, Geotrygon purpurata, is a bird of the Columbidae family that breeds in north-west Colombia and north-west Ecuador. It lives on the ground and in the undergrowth of old evergreen montane forest and mature secondary forest. In Colombia it occurs from 200 to 1,100 m, while in Ecuador it is recorded only to 700 m. It was once treated as part of the sapphire quail-dove, but has been recognised as a separate species since the early 2010s. The adult male shows a striking mix of purplish and reddish tones, with bright blue on the back and rump.
