Purplish-backed Jay, Cyanocorax beecheii, is a member of the crow family found in north-west Mexico. It lives mainly in dry deciduous forest across its breeding range in Middle America. The bird is marked by purple on the back, wings and tail, with black plumage elsewhere. It has a strong bill and a long tail, and the forehead carries a small erectile crest. The species was described by Vigors in 1829.
