Pycroft's petrel

Pterodroma pycrofti

Pycroft's petrel (Pterodroma pycrofti) is a small seabird belonging to the Procellariidae family. It is primarily found in the South Pacific Ocean, particularly around New Zealand and nearby islands. This species is known for its graceful flight and its distinctive call, which is often heard during the breeding season. Pycroft's petrels are pelagic birds, spending most of their lives at sea, only returning to land to breed in colonies on remote islands. They are opportunistic feeders, preying on small fish, squid, and crustaceans. Threats to this species include predation by introduced species and habitat degradation on breeding islands.
