Pygmy Cormorant

Microcarbo pygmaeus

The Pygmy Cormorant (Microcarbo pygmaeus) is a small waterbird found in Europe and Asia. It has a slender body, a long neck, and a hooked bill. Its plumage is mainly dark brown with a metallic green sheen. Pygmy Cormorants are skilled divers and feed on fish, crustaceans, and aquatic invertebrates. They prefer shallow, freshwater habitats such as lakes, marshes, and slow-flowing rivers. Despite being relatively widespread, the Pygmy Cormorant faces threats from habitat loss and degradation. Conservation efforts are important to ensure the long-term survival of this species.
