Cardinalis sinuatus Bonaparte, 1838

Pyrrhuloxia, Cardinalis sinuatus, is a bird of North America and Middle America, breeding in the south-western USA and Mexico. It is a medium-sized passerine in the cardinal family, first described by Bonaparte in 1838. Often called the desert cardinal, it is a distinctive species with a short, stout bill, a red crest and red wings. It closely resembles the northern cardinal and the vermilion cardinal, and belongs to the same genus.
