Leucocarbo ranfurlyi
Ranfurly's shag is a species of cormorant endemic to New Zealand. It is a medium-sized seabird with a long, slender neck and a hooked bill. The plumage is predominantly dark with a metallic green sheen, and it has a distinctive white patch on the cheeks. These birds are skilled divers and feed on a variety of fish and marine invertebrates. They are often found in coastal areas and on offshore islands, where they nest in colonies on rocky cliffs or in trees. Ranfurly's shags are vulnerable to disturbance at their breeding sites and are also threatened by habitat loss and pollution.
