Red-and-Black Thrush

Turdus erythropleurus

The Red-and-Black Thrush (Turdus erythropleurus) is a medium-sized songbird found in the mountainous regions of southwestern China and northern Vietnam. It is characterized by its striking plumage, with a glossy black head, bright red underparts, and contrasting white eye-ring. This species is known for its melodious and varied song, often heard echoing through the dense forests it inhabits. Red-and-Black Thrushes are primarily insectivorous, foraging on the forest floor and in the lower canopy. They are typically found in montane broadleaf and mixed forests, where they nest in dense vegetation. Despite being relatively widespread, the species faces threats from habitat loss and fragmentation.
